Grade 8 Field Trip to Canobie Lake Park

June 17, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This Friday, June 19th, Grade 8 students will be attending a field trip to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH!  Students and staff are very excited about this field trip and the weather reports are very promising for a beautiful day!  I am sending Mr. Kelley as a chaperone due to his experience on this type of field trip.   As a teacher, Mr. Kelley participated in a trip to Canobie every year and organized the trip for the last five years of his tenure.  Mr. Kelley and I have worked with the grade 8 team to come up with a plan to ensure the safety of students while providing students with the opportunity to have a terrific day.  Mr. Kelley held a meeting today with students to explain the procedures and expectations for the day.

Memorial Middle School will send a total of nine chaperones.  Students are required to wear the class t-shirt they received as part of the celebration dance.  A pair of chaperones will always be stationed at the entrance to the park and a pair of chaperones will always be stationed at the “clock,” a central location in the park.  All students will be shown the location of the chaperones’ stations when the class arrives at the park.  If at any time a student needs a chaperone, the students can report to one of these two locations.  We expect the buses to arrive at the park at10:00 am. Students will be required to check in with their assigned chaperone at noon and at departure at 3:15.  We expect the bus to return to MMS between 5:00 and 5:30 pm.

Bathing suits are NOT allowed on this trip.  Students should dress comfortably and are encouraged to wear sneakers as there will be a good amount of walking.  Students should bring a lunch or money to buy food at one of the concession areas. We recommend students bring a bottle of water and sunscreen.  iPads and other valuables should be left at home.  If any student has an iPad, it will be taken by one of the Grade 8 teachers and returned at the end of the trip.  We understand that many parents want their student to carry a cell phone and we support this choice.   We ask that students refrain from taking video or photos of anyone without his or her permission.

Finally, all school rules remain in effect.  Several other schools will be in attendance at the park.  All Hull students must remain respectful at all times regardless.  Should any students have concerns about the behavior of other students, they should report to a chaperone immediately.

We want all to have an enjoyable and memorable experience at Canobie Lake Park.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the administration.

Sincerely,

Anthony A. Hrivnak, Principal
Gregory Kelley, Assistant Principal
